MN101

Nominee
MN101 is a new height-adjustable desk designed by Morten Nikolajsen and produced by HOWE. The desk is constructed of few elements and materials, so its sophistication lies in its simplicity and functionality. MN101’s solid wood table top is matched by a solid wood frame and feet, and combined with an electric linear actuator solution. This table top also makes it possible to simplify the product’s overall construction and eliminate the need for a sub-frame. Beneath the table top is a neat cable management solution that adds unique character to the desk, while keeping cables easy to access yet tidy. This clever fabric cable tray is also sound-absorbing and the philosophy behind its design is that it must be beautiful from all angles – an essential perspective for a table that is height adjustable. MN101 is a part of the Essential Workspace collection.

Sustainability

Wood plays a leading part in the creation of MN101, honouring simplicity, practicality and a feeling of honesty. The wood used is FSC-certified, meaning that it is harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious and economically viable. This FSC certification also ensures that the forest of the wood’s source is well managed, from the protection of indigenous people’s rights, to the methods of felling trees. In addition, the control box from Linak uses a minimum of power when in a standby position.

HOWE Furniture was founded in 1928 in Connecticut by Harold Howe. Inspired by the early Bauhaus movement – and the principle of form following function – HOWE started out making just about any furniture that was simple and outstandingly flexible. We take pride in continuing to explore this modern design tradition.
