As our world has changed, so have our vacation plans: road trips feel like a great idea, so jump in the family van and drive!! Studio Twist’s latest collection, Road Trips, pays homage to iconic U.S. drives:
Route 66, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Natchez Trace
Route 66, known as the Main Street of America, was one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System. It originally ran from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA, a distance of 2,448 miles and was recognized in popular culture by hit songs, a TV series and John Steinbeck’s classic American novel, The Grapes of Wrath. Route 66 served as a primary route for those who migrated west, especially during the 1930’s. The road supported the economies of communities through which it passed, until the highway was bypassed by the new Interstate Highway System. Portions of the road in Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, and Arizona have been communally designated a National Scenic Byway under the name "Historic Route 66".
The Blue Ridge Parkway, a National Parkway in the U.S., is noted for its scenic beauty. It runs for 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina, mostly along the spine of the Blue Ridge, part of the Appalachian Mountains, linking the Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Parkway has been the most visited unit of the National Park System almost every year since 1946. It boasts The Blue Ridge Music Center, a folk art center, a visitor center, several campgrounds, numerous parking areas at trailheads for hiking, and Mount Mitchell, the highest point in the eastern North America
Natchez, Mississippi is the oldest city on the Mississippi River and home to many of the most palatial antebellum homes in America. Native American, African-American and European cultures blend to make Natchez a unique place, boasting a host of antebellum structures with 13 National Landmarks and over 1,000 buildings on the National Register. The first route into Natchez was the Natchez Trace, originally a buffalo trail, later used by Native Americans and early settlers. It runs 450 miles between Nashville, Tennessee and Natchez, a green and peaceful route dotted with interpretive exhibits, 18th-century inns, and picnic sites. While beautiful and bucolic in all seasons, autumn is the best time to experience the brilliant foliage while hiking.
What better way to pay homage to these scenic iconic drives, than the Road Trips Collection from Studio Twist? We thought about the sights and colors you would see while driving, biking, horseback riding or camping along the way: mountains and mesas, trees and flowers, textures and textiles reminiscent of these historic areas . . .
