'Sandpiper Pavilions' - SouthShore Public Library, Hillsborogh Co., FL

Sandpiper Pavilions were designed for a large library plaza to provide for more public opportunities for community interaction such as readings, concerts, weekend markets along with family activities. There are 3 laser cut palm image shades and two sets of these large aluminum pavilions. At night LED in-ground lighting is programed for slow changing colors as an animated show for nighttime activities.

Sustainability

70% recycled aluminum, Shade structures with laser cut palm images for reduction of wind loads, LED in-ground programed colored lighting.

$95,000.00 including design, engineering, fabrication, shipping and installation.

Notes

Project satisfied this Library's need to incorporate a larger audience and stake-holder participation for this area, which is growing and expanding in Hillsborogh County. This is a great example of Public Art as architecture, utilitarian, and includes view changes from day to night. After Sandpiper pavilions was installed along with seating, tables and landscaping the library posted a membership rise by 318% in their first year.
