Edo Vessel Sink

Nominee

Imagined in collaboration with designer Tod Babick, this sink is available in both Golden Bronze and Desert Cream Limestone. The enigmatic Edo Vessel pays homage to the rich heritage of Japanese pottery while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. This stunning fixture is a testament to Stone Forest’s unique ability to honor the natural world through imaginative creations and a commitment to quality.

Born of fire, this substantial bronze vessel sink is crafted using traditional sandcasting techniques. Stone Forest leaves the exterior of the sink “rough cast” prior to applying a patina, resulting in a unique finish on each sink, which reflects the designs ancestry in traditional Japanese pottery.

As explained by Tod Babick, "The irregular, imperfect form and surfaces of the piece, as well as the variations within the patina, are in alignment with the Japanese aesthetic philosophy of wabi-sabi, which embraces that which is naturally imperfect, irregular, weathered, and unadorned."

Also crafted in Desert Cream Limestone, each vessel sink is sculpted from blocks of rich, sensual limestone that harbor traces of ancient fossils in every iteration. The exterior pattern is created with diamond pointed tooling, while the interior basin is brought to a lustrous finish with hand polishing.

Exalting the glory of stone, metal, and wood, Stone Forest brings the essential energy and beauty of nature into the garden, kitchen, and bathroom with sculpted designs to evoke the expansive and restorative feelings of the outdoor world.  Whether carved from single blocks of granite, marble, travertine, and onyx; forged in bronze and copper; or crafted from wood and iron, each piece is uniquely authentic.

A LITTLE ABOUT US

Formed in 1989, Stone Forest is a group of artisans and designers focused on bringing the elegant simplicity of natural materials into the kitchen and bath and garden.  We take our lead from nature’s blue print, emphasizing the quiet beauty of stone, bronze, copper, wood, and iron.

THE SHORT STORY

Stone Forest was founded by Michael Zimber in 1989.  Michael’s relationship with stone and water began in his early 20s when he worked as a climbing and river guide.  Fascinated with the beauty of the rock cliffs he was scaling, he began sculpting blocks of stone in his spare time.  Mike thought that if he could somehow capture this feeling and bring it into people’s homes, he could make an enjoyable and meaningful living. Stone Forest was born.

Stone Forest design inspiration: The design should never speak louder than the stone itself.
