The Cartouche Collection
Robert A.M. Stern Collection for CF Stinson
The Cartouche CollectionThe Cartouche Collection by Robert A.M. Stern Designs is a series of seven upholstery textiles inspired by architectural details found in traditional American buildings, from shingle-style houses to the New York Public Library. Subtle texture and a refined color palette add sophistication to the patterns, each of which references a different element in the finishes and trims of these great buildings. Spindle, inspired by 19th century lathe turned ornamentation, captures the three-dimensional play of shadow and light with soft tones and elegant palettes, and Cyma takes its inspiration from an often-overlooked band in traditional crown moldings. The Acanthus pattern reinterprets a scrolling acanthus-leaf motif as a bold block print while Links creates a cohesive pattern by connecting circles and squares together in a bold and complex grid. Based on Queen Anne willow-leaf carved woodwork, Serpentino is an organic reinterpretation of the Chinese “yin yang.” Bold colors, metallic accents and an Art Deco twist add energy and excitement to the Insignia pattern. And finally, Balustrade creates the illusion of movement with two ribbons shifted and interlocked into a graphic pattern.
