The Design Process

Designs were developed in-house by our global product team and are exclusive to Karndean Designflooring. Every one is an original.

European Oak: Regarded for centuries as a luxurious flooring choice, these designs celebrate the classic colors, grains and textures of European oak. Inspired by oaks from England, Italy and France, they provide a robust palette for commercial designers. 

White Oak: Building on the continued popularity of limed oaks, we selected a batch of fine-grade wood as inspiration for these designs. Adding a limed finish accentuates the open grain of the original oak, creating a contemporary look with gentle color variation from plank to plank, while a select number of darker planks create contrast. 

Danish Oak: In the 1800s, vast oak forests were planted across Europe to provide building material for ships. Today, Danish oak is regarded as a high-quality timber for furniture and flooring. Our luxury vinyl designs have a consistent color tone across planks and the appearance of burnished black knots. 

American Wood: Our American Wood designs offer oak-inspired looks in neutral colors, all replicating traditional oak grain and knot detail. Other designs were inspired by heart pine, for which a light brush and light satin oils bring the blended tones to life. 

Australian Wood: Our Australian Wood designs were inspired by ash from Swan Bay, distinguished by unique markings from the flames of bush fires, and spotted gum from the eastern seaboard, with smooth bark that sheds in patches to create the spotted appearance.

Sustainability

Karndean LooseLay Wood products meet the following criteria: 

• Can help projects earn LEED v4.1 points by virtue or product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
• FloorScore® certified as low-VOC.
• Free from the addition of heavy metals, BPA, formaldehyde and ortho-phthalates. 
• None of our products contain raw materials that are reprotoxic, endocrine disrupting or carcinogenic; our products comply with California's Proposition 65 and do not require warning labels. 
• Low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) FloorScore® Indoor Air Quality certification, meeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credit 4.3 and CAL 01350. 
• Through our FloorScore® certification, these products can contribute to WELL v2 projects. 
• Certified to NSF/ANSI 332, the foremost US standard by which to evaluate and certify the sustainability of resilient floor coverings across the entire product life cycle, including both environmental and social aspects of the production and use of LVT.
