This Highly Figured Birdseye Maple Dining table was an exciting challenge. The simplicity in the design masks the complexity of its mechanics. The inward swell of the table gives the Birdseye figure more of a dynamic effect. In the closed position, this asymmetric view sits against a bay window as the sizable leaf is hung off the back by shop made brass yokes, which can be removed independently. When the table opens, a collapsible rail system is then engaged and unfolds into a symmetric view. The engineering and rarity of the Birdseye along with the massive size made this piece an adventurous collaboration. Photos by Bill Truslow
