The new Trees line by Norman Diekman is a collection of modern sculptural tables. These tables are evocative interpretations of natural forms. Common tilting edges invite pairing one form with another. Material usage is assigned to each form to manifest the sensorial promise of scale, texture and color. The third collection by Mr. Diekman for Brayton, the Trees collection is the fulcrum upon which he seeks to balance the language of shape, line, plane, volume and material. The presence of a Tree or multiple Trees may serve as an anchor within open architectural spaces by providing weight and substance upon the ground plane. Curved and angled surfaces offer cascading or leaning volumes to pair with furniture settings. Materials such as terrazzo and molded wood form the natural skin of Trees, altering the user experience with each touch.Mr. Diekman found inspiration for Trees and the intersection of volumes while studying a floor plan by the late architect, Louis Kahn. Juxtaposing mass and plane, Trees builds upon influences from the work of sculptors, as well, like Puryear and Brancusi. “The object is animated by its use. ‚¬â€œ N. DiekmanTrees tables may be considered as companions to other Diekman designs by Brayton, known as Softleaf and Diekman Tables. Each collection serves to build upon the sculptural heritage of prior designs. Heights of the Trees table line are designed to meet end table and coffee table applications. The six Trees that make up the collection may also be used as pedestals for the display of objects and art. A companion glass top is available for low Trees where one large continuous surface is desired.
