Ash has long been coveted as a hard floor with a graceful differentiation between early and late wood ring colors. It might remind one of oak, but is generally a bit lighter with less distinctive grain and no discernable ray fleck. It is often used as a more economical substitute for more expensive antique Chestnut flooring. Ash also takes a stain well for specialty tones and colors.
