9,000 SFWashington DC Opened in late 2006, world-renowned Chef Michel Richard brings his take on the classic french bistro to Washington DC. Located centrally on Pennsylvania Ave, between the White House and The U.S. Capitol, Central presents a more casual atmosphere than Chef Richard's famous Citronelle (recently voted #1 Restaurant in DC by the Washingtonian Magazine), and is designed to be a celebration of the American Dining Experience as seen through the eyes of the proudly French-American artist -who can often be seen at work in Central's large, open chrome and ceramic-tiled kitchen. The design of the restrooms offer a bold, colorful change of pace when compared to the neutral and warm feel of the main restaurant and bar. Traditional gender-related colors (pink represents women while blue represents men) are highlighted and reflected in the color of the custom concrete sinks, the accent lighting and the iridescent glass wall tiles. In addition, large-scale, playful graphics were included in each of the rooms to provide the customer with visual stimulation. In the Men's Room, a detail of a wine-spout hovers above the fixtures while in the Women's Room, a close-up featuring a glass of bubbling pink champagne is reflected back as patrons gaze into the large mirrors above the sink.

Notes
Central Michel Richard's restrooms sought to create a bold and colorful statement. The design had to be consistent with the Owner's desire for playfulness and fun and as a result, shimmering tiles and dramatic lighting were incorporated to enhance the theatrical nature of the experience. Additionally, large-scale graphics add a touch of humor to the venue.
