Philips Antumbra

Platinum Award
The Philips Antumbra User Interfaces offer a refreshing change to the boring traditional wall switch in buildings, offering a level of aesthetic detail and customizability unparalleled in the market. Elegantly simple and clean in look, the Antumbra user interfaces offer not only button and status control of any compatible lighting or building load, but integrated features such as: A field effect sensor to backlight ‘halo’ the interface when someone comes near; an integrated temperature sensor and ambient light sensor that can communicate back to a networked system; a detachable communication module on the back to allow the keypad to be interfaced with multiple backend communications topologies; and a low cost raised printing method allowing icons or text on the buttons that will not wear off. To make design and ordering easy an intuitive online configurator allows anyone to design their UI panel from scratch and get the custom order number and a drawing. Communication modules are currently available to talk with the Philips DyNet Protocol for Philips Controls products, but others are in the works. Additionally a, Antumbra model with an integrated LCD screen in the middle of the unit will be available by Q1 2014 to allow software configurable labeling of buttons and/or integration with 3rd party information (HVAC, etc.). All Antumbra UIs are available in the standard European and North American single gang form factors and can be ordered with White, Magnesium, and Silver buttons. The Rim around the edge of the station can be ordered in White plastic, Magnesium colored plastic, Chrome and Aluminum.

Notes

The idea of this product was to bring industrial design to lighting controls in hotels, offices, and restaurants while still meeting the tight financial constrains put on specifiers and owners that traditionally have had to choose function over form. Antumbra brings both while giving an increased feature set. Never before has an owner, engineer, or lighting designer had the flexibility in design with the simplicity (using the online configurator tool) of specification and ordering. Additionally, through the ability to detach the communications module, customers will have the choice of what backend technology meets their needs. Right out of the gate the Philips DyNet protocol integration (using the DACM Communication module) allows everything from a simple office all the way to a high-rise control using Philips Dynalite controls.
