Sonia uses only sustainable solid hardwood and multilayer water resistant (marine-grade) wood in wenge, beech, washed oak and walnut. These materials are far superior to fiber or MDF elements used by typical furniture makers. With marine grade wood, the lowest grade veneer that is used is “B,†which means that there will be no serious voids on the surface and interior plies. Voids cause moisture to get trapped within the wood, and are the weak spots of the sheet that cause poor adhesion. Therefore, because of the lack of voids, marine grade has excellent adhesion properties throughout the lamination process.Furthermore, Sonia's wood types are treated with an exterior adhesive, which is not affected by long term wetting and is in fact waterproof. All of Sonia's finished cabinetry receives a UV protector sealer finish that will eliminate fading due to natural sunlight. In order to protect the environment, Sonia goes to great measures to release low amounts of VOC's, volatile organic compounds, into the atmosphere.
