Art Deco Roll Top Desk

Platinum Award
Size: 9' x 45 Designed by: Group effort by most of our staff at YB Normal Custom Woodworking.Material/Color, ect (shown in image): Quarter sawn mapleCherryFiberglassFinish: Clear Italian conversion urethane finish, 35 sheen. Mother of PearlProduct Description/ Additional Information:Our client asked us to design an “Art-deco style roll top desk. We put our heads together, and after a number of variations, this is the final product. Our client is delighted with the end result, we like it too. The entire chassis is curved quarter-sawn maple. Even the drawers are curved, as you can see in the photo. The wood has a great natural “candy strip effect in the grain due to the way that the wood grain reflects light. The upper section has fiberglass shells that we designed and built using plaster cast molds that we made. The shells were then finished in our Italian Mother Of Pearl finish for a subtle, but beautiful automotive quality detail not usually found in furniture. The shells split in two, and pull out at an angle, then spin around to provide additional storage space. The client plans to install speakers in the shells for a great stereo effect when they are opened. The maple tambour door covers a myriad of cherry “cubbie type drawers that were all designed to store the stuff that our client keeps in his desk. We actually sized his drawers to his stuff.Attention to details makes the project great.

YB Normal Custom Woodworking is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was founded by Ted Geers in May of 2000. Rapid growth has resulted in a need for additional fabrication space. In December of 2005, YB Normal moved into their new headquarters. The newly constructed facility is almost three times larger than the previous facility.YB Normal's craftsmen are also artists, and contribute significantly in designing their client's projects. Their specialty is designing and building “Functional Art”. Furniture that is absolutely unique and innovative, yet functional and durable. They work closely with interior designers and architects to help them create very special; custom reception desks, board room tables, executive offices, home offices, bars, and much more, that is exactly right for their clients. Hardwoods, veneers, laminates, metals, glass, 3form, and more, make up the list of materials used to fabricate their unique furniture.Wood finishes play an important part of completing a custom furniture project. YB Normal uses only the finest Italian conversion polyurethane and polyester finishes. They make all of their own stains and color matches. Colors range from white to black; “normal” wood stains, to electric Corvette blue, purple, red, mother of pearl, or anything else designers can imagine.Designers or architects are encouraged to e-mail, fax or mail their drawings of furniture specifications to YB Normal for a price quote, or call if they would like design input.
