Shoji Living

SHOJI LivingStructure – Simplicity - SerenityThe company, created by German designer Peter Oppermann, is dedicated to making sturdy yet environmentally friendly screens that can be a decorative or subtle design solution for the home or office. Sales in the US market continue to grow – as discerning professional and residential clients learn of the collection's full range of privacy screens that combine the engineering and durability of German design with the simplicity and beauty of ancient Japanese shoji. The addition of a new line of Bamboo screens enhances SHOJI Living's range of sustainable materials. Bamboo CollectionOppermann is constantly searching for materials and methods to expand the SHOJI Living range. His personal commitment to the environment led him to explore the possibilities of bamboo. Beautiful, enduring, light, and ecological sustainable, bamboo is a high-performance building material. It can be sustainably harvested and replenished with little impact to the environment. SHOJI Living Eco Bamboo Sliding Door Systems can be ordered in natural or amber and a range of finishes and custom configurations.Traditional CollectionSHOJI Living screens in the traditional collection are built using Pacific Coast Hemlock, the same wood used to build Japanese post and beam houses. The strength and silky golden finish of the wood makes it perfect for shoji doors. The wood has a hand-rubbed oil- and wax-based finish and is available in natural, black, white, dark chocolate or custom stains. Decorative Facing OptionsStandard screen facing is similar to traditional shoji paper and has a natural feeling, yet is crafted using durable, polyester-enforced shoji paper. This paper has a delicate look with long threads of fiber spread over a white background, but is five times stronger than conventional shoji paper, making these doors functional in the modern world. Also offered is an extra-strong, washable laminated shoji paper as well as a sturdy glazed acrylic glass. Recognizing the decorative potential of these systems, SHOJI Living has formed strategic partnerships with architectural panel leader 3Form and textile artist Sascha. 3Form offers environmentally friendly, high-performing decorative resin panels encapsulating natural elements like sea grass and bamboo. Sharon Ascher, aka Sascha, is an innovative textile artist who creates one-of-a-kind Fusion-Textiles, handmade by fusing leaves, flowers and threads together in fabric. SHOJI Living clients will be able to design their own artistic and nature-inspired screens using these unique materials.Custom-fit and Ready to ShipSHOJI Living tailors its shoji screens to fit into any space and ships every order in a custom crate ready to assemble and hang. An interactive online Shoji Planner (the only one of its kind) makes it easy to create a privacy solution for any setting. The site also offers a pricing calculator to get an instant first estimate. Customers in New York City can visit SHOJI Living's new full–service Manhattan showroom for assistance with measurements, delivery and installation.
