HALCON introduces MEDIO, a design created by SKIDMORE, OWINGS & MERRILL in response to the very special needs presented by the “conference” table. According to research undertaken by SOM, engaging electrical and telecommunications companies, advances in technology suggest that business as a whole is working toward a wireless environment. Nonetheless, there will be a need for wired power for some time to come. The design of MEDIO, consequently, acknowledges and responds to both aspects of this study. The design solution was to locate an area below the work top table surface which would allow for a tray device that could function as a drawer and, at the same time, offer an inconspicuous space for the connections that may be specified. Between the table surface and the drawer, SOM worked within the parameters of Ergonomic standards to create a reveal that would function and seamlessly integrate as a pull through for wire ways. It also meant that the aesthetics would hardly change if, at a later date, there were innovations of wireless power.
